Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are moving towards a dramatic exchange of attacking talent, with Iliman Ndiaye and Richarlison at the centre of separate transfer negotiations.
The final days of the transfer window are producing another unexpected Premier League storyline, with Tottenham Hotspur in advanced discussions with Everton over a move for Iliman Ndiaye, while Everton are simultaneously working on a deal to bring former favourite Richarlison back to Merseyside.
The two transfers are being negotiated separately, but their timing has created the possibility of a remarkable reshaping of both clubs' attacking options.
Tottenham have identified Ndiaye as a leading target as they look to strengthen their forward line. The Senegal international has emerged as one of Everton's most important attacking players since arriving from Marseille in 2024, making the potential departure a significant decision for David Moyes' side.
Sky Sports reports that Everton would require the right financial package before agreeing to sell Ndiaye. The player has also turned down several attempts from the club to extend his contract, adding another layer of uncertainty around his future.
Richarlison's Everton Return
At the other end of the negotiations, Everton are exploring a reunion with Richarlison.
The Brazilian became a major figure at Goodison Park after joining Everton from Watford in 2018. He eventually left for Tottenham in 2022 in a deal worth around £60 million, ending a successful spell in which he scored 53 goals in 152 appearances for the club.
His time in north London, however, has been considerably more difficult.
Richarlison has scored 32 goals in 134 appearances for Tottenham, but injuries, competition for places and inconsistent form have prevented him from establishing himself as the central attacking figure many expected after his expensive move.
The situation has now reached a decisive point.
Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that Richarlison had asked to leave the club and was omitted from the squad for the recent home defeat to Newcastle. With the Brazilian entering the final year of his Tottenham contract, a return to Everton could offer both player and club a fresh start.
Why Tottenham Want Ndiaye
For Tottenham, Ndiaye represents a different type of attacking option.
The 26-year-old is capable of operating across the forward line and has developed into an influential player for Everton. His ability to carry the ball, create opportunities and attack defenders makes him an attractive option for a Tottenham side seeking more movement and creativity in the final third.
Spurs' pursuit of Ndiaye has also intensified as their other attacking targets become increasingly difficult to secure.
Tottenham had been interested in Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, but Manchester City have now moved into a stronger position in negotiations for the Netherlands international. That development has encouraged Spurs to push harder for alternatives, with Ndiaye emerging as one of their preferred options.
Interestingly, Ndiaye has also attracted interest from Manchester City, meaning Tottenham are attempting to secure a player who has been on the radar of one of their biggest domestic rivals.
Two Deals, One Major Transfer Story
Although the Ndiaye and Richarlison negotiations are taking place at the same time, they are not formally one swap deal.
That distinction matters.
Tottenham would be buying Ndiaye from Everton, while Everton would separately negotiate Richarlison's return. Each transfer therefore has its own financial and contractual requirements.
Yet, if both agreements are completed, the consequences could be substantial.
Everton would lose one of their most exciting current attackers but regain a player who already understands the club and has a strong connection with its supporters.
Tottenham, meanwhile, would replace a forward who appears determined to leave with a younger attacking option who could provide greater flexibility across the frontline.
A Deadline-Day Story Waiting to Happen?
With the transfer window approaching its conclusion, there is little room for either club to waste time.
Everton must decide how much Ndiaye's departure would weaken their squad and whether Richarlison can provide enough attacking quality to compensate.
Tottenham face a similar calculation. They need reinforcements in attack, but any major late-window signing must fit into the club's wider plans under De Zerbi.
For supporters of both clubs, the next few days could therefore be decisive.
A player who once became an Everton hero could be heading back to Goodison Park, while one of the club's current stars could be preparing for a new chapter in north London.
The deals remain subject to final negotiations, personal terms and the necessary formalities, but the direction of travel is becoming increasingly clear: Richarlison could be returning to Everton, while Ndiaye could be on his way to Tottenham.
