Robert Pattinson is back in the Batsuit, but returning as Batman has come with one noticeable challenge: the physical demands of the role are no longer what they used to be.
The 40-year-old actor is currently filming Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II in London and admitted that the fight scenes have become significantly more difficult compared with his first outing as the Caped Crusader.
Speaking to GQ, Pattinson said he is “definitely feeling my age” during the action sequences. He added that fighting for the sequel is “significantly harder” than it was when he made the first movie.
Pattinson was 35 when The Batman was released in 2022. Despite the physical strain, he remains enthusiastic about returning to the character, describing the production as fun and saying he believes the new movie will be “pretty great.”
“It’s a marathon,” Pattinson said while discussing the demanding shoot.
The actor has also confirmed that some of the recently circulated footage from the set shows him riding a motorcycle as Batman’s street-level alter ego, known as the Drifter. The production is continuing in the UK, with Pattinson expected to remain in London until the end of the year.
The Batman: Part II will bring back several familiar faces, including Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. The sequel is also adding new cast members, including Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent and Scarlett Johansson in a role that has not been publicly revealed.
The sequel has faced several delays and is now scheduled to arrive in cinemas on February 18, 2028.
For Pattinson, the Batman production comes after an unusually busy stretch of work. Since the Hollywood strikes, he has moved between several projects, including Die My Love, The Drama, The Odyssey, Dune: Part Three and Primetime. He said that once filming The Batman: Part II is finished, he intends to take some time off.
For now, however, Pattinson still has plenty of Gotham City action ahead of him — even if the fights are proving a little tougher than they did the first time around.
