Elon Musk’s financial support for his son with former conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair was allegedly reduced from $100,000 to $20,000 per month after she went public about the child, according to claims featured in a new documentary about the billionaire.
St. Clair discusses her relationship with the Tesla and SpaceX chief executive in Musk, a documentary directed by Alex Gibney that explores Musk’s personal life and business influence.
According to her account in the film, she was initially offered $15 million upfront and monthly child support of $100,000 in exchange for keeping their relationship and child private.
She says the proposed arrangement changed after she declined the offer and later revealed that Musk was the father of her son, Romulus.
Ashley St. Clair Explains the Alleged Payment Reduction
St. Clair says the proposed monthly support was first reduced to $40,000 before falling further to $20,000 in February 2025, after she publicly disclosed the birth of her child.
The reported figures represent an $80,000 monthly reduction from the original amount she says was offered.
St. Clair gave birth to Romulus in September 2024 but announced publicly in February 2025 that Musk was the child’s father.
She has maintained that she wanted to protect her son’s privacy but decided to speak publicly after concerns that the information would emerge through media reports.
Musk has previously addressed the financial arrangements publicly. In March 2025, he said he had given St. Clair $2.5 million and was sending $500,000 annually, while also stating that he was uncertain about the child’s paternity.
Dispute Over the Alleged Confidentiality Agreement
The documentary also revisits claims that St. Clair was offered a substantial payment in exchange for agreeing not to discuss Musk publicly.
St. Clair has said she rejected the proposed arrangement because she did not want her son to feel that his existence had to remain a secret.
The alleged agreement and the reported child support payments have become part of a wider public dispute surrounding the former couple.
Musk has criticised Gibney’s documentary, describing it as a biased portrayal of him. Reports also indicate that his representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the latest claims about the payments.
Custody Dispute Remains Unresolved
St. Clair has taken legal action seeking custody arrangements and a formal determination of paternity for Romulus.
The dispute has drawn attention because of the conflicting public accounts surrounding financial support, parental responsibilities and the circumstances of their relationship.
The documentary presents St. Clair’s account of those events, but her allegations about the payment reductions and the reasons behind them should be distinguished from independently established court findings.
Documentary Brings Musk’s Private Life Into Focus
The release of Musk has renewed scrutiny of the billionaire’s relationships and his approach to parenthood.
St. Clair’s account is among the personal stories explored in the film, which examines aspects of Musk’s life beyond his leadership of major technology companies.
For now, the claims surrounding the alleged payment reductions remain part of an ongoing public dispute, while the custody proceedings involving Romulus continue
